The graduate professional profile is built on the institutional interest of adopting an educational model that allows, through the appropriate integration of knowledge, practice, content and pedagogical strategies, to form an economist with the following characteristics: Solid knowledge in theory and economic policy and broad skills in the use of quantitative and qualitative methods, tools and instruments that allow  for the forecasting, diagnosis and modeling of economic and social phenomena. Ability to interpret and contribute with scientific rigor to the solution of economic and social problems of global, national, regional and local character. Capacity to design and implement policies, plans and projects of a socioeconomic nature, taking into account their impacts on society, under the principles of economic, social and environmental sustainability. Aptitude to lead the strategic direction of public or private organizations and institutions, contributing effectively to raise their productivity, competitiveness and corporate social responsibility. Skills and abilities for oral and written communication, and with a good command of the English language. Leadership, management and entrepreneurship, and critical and creative attitude. Skills for interpersonal relationships and teamwork in diverse, multidisciplinary, and multicultural environments. Solid human values, ethical and moral principles. Responsibility in the fulfillment of his duties; Honest, disciplined, tolerant, supportive and respectful of the ideas and rights of others.

Occupational profile

The curriculum of the Economics Program offers an academic training that will allow the professional to link and perform efficiently in the following employment fields:

Public sector: In both national and territorial entities. In the national executive branch as ministries, decentralized entities and planning agencies. In instances of the municipalities, districts and provincial governments of the departments, where advice to make economic and social policy decisions is required; also to carry out activities related to the study and analysis of socioeconomic phenomena, the planning, management, execution and evaluation of development projects with high impact on the economic, social and environmental well-being of the local, regional and national environment.

Private sector: In unions, organizations and companies where trained professionals to analyze the functioning of the regional, national and global economy are required; the planning and management of business ventures; the management and evaluation of projects; the effective use of commercial opportunities; design of pricing and product marketing strategies; widening of the productive processes; productivity growth, competitiveness and social responsibility.

Academic sector: As a teacher in the different areas that integrate his professional training, as a researcher in regional and national study centers, through the development of research, studies and consulting.

The economist of the University of Magdalena will also be able to carry out senior management functions in different projects or dependencies in public and private organizations at national and regional level, projects to develop activities and operations in different productive sectors of the country. Performing managerial, directive, advisory and technical functions in the areas of planning, finance, market analysis, management of statistics and research.
